Prices & What's Included

  • The price of our babies range from $200-$350 depending on gender, color, markings and personality. However, some babies may be priced higher at our discretion.

  • The prices of our hedgehogs are NOT negotiable.

 

  • All babies purchased at Top Notch Hedgehogs will come with the following:

Color Disclaimer

  • Because pictures of our babies are taken at an early age, colors and markings may slightly change.

  • We do not guarantee colors and/or markings as hedgehogs can change in colors during quilling.  Facial markings may also tend to change a bit.

Reserving one of our Babies:

  • The first thing we ask, after reading everything on this page, is that you kindly fill out and submit our Adoption Application. We will respond as quickly as possible.

​

  • All of our babies can be viewed at the Available Babies page of our website.  The website is always up to date with the most current information.  By clicking on each individual picture, you will be able to see additional pictures of every baby and their personal information such as; DOB, approximate ready by date, price, etc. 

 

  • If you are interested in a specific baby, we kindly ask that you contact us first before making a deposit.  Sometimes a baby hedgehog might have already been spoken for, and in that event, it is most likely that he/she may not be available for anyone else to reserve.  Once you have contacted us, either by a phone call, text, email, Facebook or Instagram messenger, and we confirm the availability of that specific baby of your choice, you will be able to reserve him/her by clicking on his/her picture, then adding the baby to the cart and checking out. 

 

  • The deposit is $52 non-refundable which includes a $2 PayPal convenience fee that is not applied to your deposit. The $50 will be applied to the purchase of your hedgehog.  The remaining balance is due in CASH ONLY at the time of pick up.

  • In the event that you prefer coming to see our babies prior to reserving one, you can schedule a "Meet and Greet" appointment with us for a small fee.  Please read our "Meet and Greet" paragraph below.

  • If you require shipping, please read our "Shipping" paragraph below for additional information .

Pick Up

  • The "ready by" date is a close estimate of the time your baby will be ready to go.  However, because we will NOT allow any of our babies to leave without weighing 200 grams, it is not guaranteed they will be ready on that specific date.  If your baby were to require extra time, you will be notified by us.

 

  • Once you are notified that your baby is ready for pick up, you will need to make all reasonable efforts to arrange a date and time for the pick up your baby hedgehog.

 

  • If there will be a delay in picking up on the agreed date from the customers side, you must notify us immediately.  We will no longer hold babies past 7 days after your agreed date unless other arrangements have been made and are acceptable.  

 

  • Pick ups are strictly by appointment only.  We ask that you kindly be on time for your appointment.

 

  • Please note, that for the safety and well being of our babies, and to protect your investment, if you are NOT purchasing one of our complete cage setup packages, you MUST submit pictures of your complete cage setup, including all accessories in it, plus the heating element prior to scheduling a pick up.  We will need at least 2 different shots from different angles of your complete setup. Please see below for cage requirements.  If you need help selecting certain items or have a doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us prior to purchasing any items.  We are here to help you.  No Cage, No Hedgehog, No Exceptions! 

 

  • For the convenience of our customers, we offer cage setups and accessories, all included in different packages.  For more information please check out our supplies page.

  • Please kindly remember to bring CASH ONLY for the final balance of your baby hedgehog and any supplies. In the event that you must use a credit card for final payment, there will be a 3.5% PayPal charge, in addition to a 7% FL Sales Tax added to your final balance.

 

Submitting Cage Setup Picture

If you have decided that you will NOT be purchasing one of our cage packages, we MUST see that you have everything from the checklist.  When submitting your cage setup pictures, it is important that in order to avoid any delays with pick up or shipping, that you please double check the correct size of your cage and accessories (wheel and hideout), that your heating element is complete with all 4 components (heat emitter bulb, lamp, thermometer, regulator) and that you have the proper materials such as bedding, bowls and water bottles.  If you need help selecting your items, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help and make this as smooth as possible.  Below is a list of all the items you will need to have.

 

⚠️ IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:

You will need to submit at least 2 pictures of your setup showing everything in it, a top and a front view. We reserve the right to ask for additional pictures if need be. If you are not willing to cooperate with us in this matter, please purchase your hedgehog elsewhere.

* Hedgehog Owners Checklist for Cage Requirements *

​

All of the following items are absolutely necessary for keeping a happy, healthy hedgehog.

​​

  1. Cage should NOT be any smaller than a 30" x 18" plastic bottom, or a minimum of 4 square feet. If you are using the Sterilite Containers, it must be 105 quart or larger. NO BOTTOM WIRE, NO GLASS AQUARIUMS (they hold in moisture & can cause URI) & NO HIGH LEVELED OR 2 STORY CAGES (Hedgehogs have short legs & cannot climb steep ramps or jump). 

  2. Wheel: 12” wheel with solid running surface. NO WIRE!

  3. Hide out: Size Large, tree trunk or igloo. Large enough for the hedgehog to comfortably move around in. 

  4. Bowls: Two (2) Ceramic Bowls preferably shallow and heavy.  Size: 4” diameter x 2" high - 1.5" depth. (You will be using one for water during the transition period).

  5. Water Bottle: 8 ounce or larger (make sure to get the one that has a long valve). 

  6. Bedding may be any of the following: Fleece, Paper Pellets, Care Fresh, Pine pellets, Aspen or Kiln-Dried Pine. NO CEDAR! Cedar is Toxic!

 

* Heating Element consists of 4 components - MUST have all 4 items *

  1. Lamp: 8.5” Fluckers Clamp Lamp with On/Off Switch: 150 Watt 

  2. Bulb: Ceramic Heat EMITTER BULB 100 -150 Watt (this bulb will only project heat and NO light)

  3. Regulator: Zilla Terrarium Heat & Habitat Lighting Controller for Reptiles OR Zoo Med Repti-Temp Rheostat Manual Heat Controller OR any other brand of Heating Thermostat Temperature Controller. NOT A TIMER! Please read the labels carefully. :)

  4. Digital Thermometer with wire lead for cage temperature.

Meet and Greet


We encourage you to come and handle a few of them before making a decision.  Remember, that a hedgehog will be a part of your family, and like any other pet will need a lot of handling and affection.

That is why we have decided to add "MEET & GREET" as part of our services. That way you can make sure that a hedgehog will be the right pet for you.

Our fee is $35 non-refundable per appointment and needs to be paid in advance prior to scheduling an appointment.

We will ensure that you are fully educated before you leave, so you don't have to regret any precipitated decision that are usually made by impulse buyers.

In the event you decide to purchase a hedgehog from us, the $35 will be credited towards the purchase of your hedgehog of choice.  No babies will be allowed to leave unless, you have previously sent us an approved picture of your entire cage setup including all accessories and heating element (please see paragraph above for Submitting Cage Setup Pictures), OR you are purchasing one of our cage setup packages.  Sorry, no exceptions.

Our "MEET & GREET" session usually takes about an hour depending on how many questions you may have.

Special Note:  It is important that you understand that "Meet and Greets" are ONLY to come and meet the babies that are listed as "ready now" on the available babies page of our website.  If the baby you are interested in coming to see is not ready until a future date, that means that they are still in the nest with the moms and too young to show.  For those babies, we can not bring them out for you to meet because of the high risk involved in taking them away from their moms.  Sorry, no exceptions!

​Unfortunately, United Airlines is NO longer shipping small pets until further notice. We are currently offering shipping through Delta Airlines to all legal states for an additional fee.

Shipping cost is $250* from 1 - 6 hedgehogs.

The price of the hedgehog is NOT included.

⚠️ WEATHER RESTRICTIONS APPLY:  Delta WILL NOT ship any animals if the temperature exceeds 80 degrees during the time an animal will be in any station during transport. Additional information is available on their website by clicking here.

*Special Note:  Once your hedgehog has been dropped off with the airline, we are no longer responsible in the event of any damages or injuries that could occur during transit.

 

  • After making a deposit for your hedgehog,  we will need the following information to make your reservation:

 

- At least 2 names of your nearest major airports

- Full name of person picking up

- Address

- Best contact number in the event of an emergency

 

*Please note that the airline will request to see an ID.  All information must match ID in order for them to release the animal to you.

 

  • Once we make the reservation with the airline, you will be sent the itinerary for the departure of your hedgehog along with pick up location.  A separate invoice will be sent to you 7 days prior to shipping and must be paid in full.

Shipping

Hedgehog Warranty

  • All babies born at South Florida's TOP NOTCH HEDGEHOGS of Miami come with a 6 month Congenital Disease Guarantee, Lifetime Warranty against Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS) and Lifetime Support.   In the event that we would have to honor the warranty, we will replace your hedgehog with a new one of your choice of equal or lesser value. 

 

  • Shipping Charges are not included and are to be paid by the buyer.

 

  • In order to honor the Warranty, we require a Necropsy, at the sole owner's expense, along with a picture of the diseased animal.  A full description of the animal's colors and markings shall be disclosed in the necropsy report.  Reports without a credible animal identification will not be accepted.

  • Negligence, injury, improper diet, or illness due to improper care, is NOT covered under this Warranty.

  • Warranties are NOT transferable.   In the event that you sell, surrender, give away, etc. your hedgehog, meaning that the animal you purchased from us is no longer in your care or your possession, our warranty will become NULL and VOID, this includes if you get the hedgehog back at a later time.

 

Please note: If your hedgehog suddenly becomes wobbly, that DOES NOT mean your hedgehog has "WHS" (wobbly hedgehog syndrome). " WHS" DOES NOT happen from one day to another or in a sudden manner. Signs of wobbliness are usually signs of your hedgehog being too cold or a possible ear infection.

Right to Refuse a Sale

 

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE A SALE TO ANYONE WHO WE FEEL THAT A HEDGEHOG WILL NOT BE A GOOD FIT OR WILL NOT ADEQUATELY CARE FOR OUR ANIMALS OR WILL NOT HAVE THE ANIMALS BEST INTEREST IN MIND.  IF YOU HAVE NOT PURCHASED THE NECESSARY ITEMS AND SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAINTAIN THE HEDGEHOG IN A SAFE, STRESS FREE, AND COMFORTABLE HABITAT, PRIOR TO PICKING UP, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE A SALE.  YOU MUST HAVE CAGE AND SUPPLIES READY AT TIME OF PICK UP IN ORDER TO BRING YOUR HEDGEHOG HOME.  WE ALSO OFFER CAGE SETUPS AND MANY OTHER SUPPLIES THAT YOU MAY PURCHASE FROM US AT THE TIME OF PICK UP.

 

WE DO NOT TAKE THIS DECISION LIGHLTY, NOR DO WE TAKE OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE ANIMALS WE CARE FOR AND PLACE LIGHTLY.

OUR HEDGEHOGS WELL BEING IS OUR #1 PRIORITY. 

 

THEREFORE, THE BUYER AGREES TO PROVIDE A LIFE LONG COMMITMENT, COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT, PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION, PROPER GROOMING AND RESPONSIBLE CARE.  THIS INCLUDES PROVIDING THE HEDGEHOG WITH PROPER NUTRITION WHICH CONSISTS OF CAT KIBBLES, FRUITS, VEGETABLES, A FEW TREATS AND FRESH WATER AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES AND KEEPING YOUR HEDGEHOG WARM AT ABOUT 78-80 DEGREES.  IF YOU CAN NOT COMMIT TO THIS, THEN A HEDGEHOG IS NOT THE RIGHT PET FOR YOU.

 

Returns / Surrenders

  • ALL SALES ARE FINAL!  NO REFUNDS!  NO EXCEPTIONS!

 

  • It is your responsibility as a new owner to do all your diligent research in owning a hedgehog prior to purchasing one from us.  We will always take any of OUR hedgehogs back (meaning any hedgehog that has been purchased from us and is in the same health condition as of the time of purchase).  However, there are NO REFUNDS. 

 

  • We discourage impulse buyers!!!

 

  • We are always available to answer any question and offer Lifetime Support!

 

Illegal State to Own a Hedgehog

  • Hedgehogs are illegal to own as pets in the following locations:  California, Georgia (needs permit), Hawaii, New York City boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island), Pennsylvania, Washington D.C. and Fairfax County VA.

  • Please check with your local state, city, and county ordinances to find out if there are any laws or regulations about owning exotic pets in your town. A permit may be required.

Breeding / Pedigrees

  • The breeding of our hedgehogs is strictly prohibited when sold to pet homes!

 

  • Pedigrees will ONLY be available to USDA licensed breeders, or Small Hobby Breeders whom we have established a business relationship with. They are NOT available to Pet Homes.

​

  • There is a non-refundable fee of $50 for each pedigree.  Some Pedigrees are more complete than others. The same fee applies. 

 

  • At Top Notch Hedgehogs of Miami, aka ("TNHM"), we believe that in order to deliver top quality babies it is not necessary to belong to the The International Hedgehog Registry (IHR).  Membership is absolutely free of choice, entirely optional and not mandatory.  Therefore, because the majority of our hedgehogs are sold as pets, we have chosen not to belong to this association.
